Preparation Work

Below, you can find the preparation work for each of the Meridian Sixth Form College subjects that have supplied work to be hosted on the website, relating to the Induction Morning from the 27th of June. You may have already received a paper copy where applicable, or this may be the direct source for what you have been given. Each of these are in PDF format where there is a file given.

The Theme for year 12 is' Transformation'.

Definition: 'A marked change in form, nature or appearance appearance.'

Over the summer you should make drawings from direct observation from objects in the natural or man made world or from the human form. Work from life and not from pictures, visit a museum or gallery to add to your ideas and make your collection of drawings interesting.

Your Task: Fill a minimum of 2 double pages [4 sides] in your sketchbook with detailed drawings which show a wide variety of ideas, media and techniques. You could choose from combinations of the following media:

  • Gradations of pencil
  • charcoal
  • pencil and water colour
  • acrylic paint
  • biro and mark making
  • fine liner and wash

Use the following words as starting points for inspiration for your ideas: Deconstruction, erosion, decay, passage of time, ageing, distortion, erosion, embellish, beautify. Don't forget to annotate your drawings briefly to further explain your ideas.

Students will be sent more information in the next 4 weeks and can contact the Art Department for sketchbooks and further information about the holiday task.
