Community

At Meridian, we are always seeking opportunities to work in a local, national and global context. A sense of Community is fostered and emphasised within school and the importance of understanding their own place and contribution within the community is promoted to students.

Science lesson A broad curriculum

We understand the importance of promoting our own positive image to local residents and businesses and do this, for example, through communication in the press and school magazine. Our students work regularly in local schools and with younger pupils who come to Meridian for one of a number of subject related days. Indeed, there are numerous occasions on which guests of all ages are welcomed into Meridian, for musical performances, art exhibitions, sports festivals and business competitions to name but a few.

We also reach out to offer services and entertainment at venues locally, nationally and internationally. Recent examples include Sixth Form students working with Royston Stroke Club, Music students on a tour to Paris, our athletes and swimmers competing successfully in Hertfordshire events and Chemistry students successfully competing in National Competitions.

We have developed strong working relationships with outside agencies, such as local GPs and Careers staff, who regularly visit school to talk with students. Our links with local business people are invaluable, for Work Experience opportunities, competitions and mock interviews, amongst many other occasions, on which they help.

As Royston’s Upper School, we welcome communication from people, whether or not they have a direct connection with the school. It is always our aim to respond effectively and value our place at the heart of the local community.
